Banjaar Tola
One of the largest and most scenic wildlife sanctuaries in India, Kanha National Park is an ideal habitat for both tigers and their prey species. The lush sal and bamboo forests, grassy meadows and ravines of Kanha shelter a significant population of rare species such as tiger, leopard, sloth bear, barasingha and wild dog. Kanha's mixed forests are interspersed with vast meadows known as maidans. These meadows support a high density of herbivores, including chital, barasingha, sambar and gaur, attracting predators such as the tiger, dhole or leopard to the fringes of the clearings. Perennial streams run through a number of such meadows, providing a source of water for the wildlife even in the hot summers. Kanha meadow, with its hundreds of chital grazing on a carpet of green grass against the backdrop of the majestic Sal forest, has been aptly referred to as 'the Ngorongoro of India".

Today, in the morning when every one was looking at a tiger crossing the road, a Red Wattled Lapwing got alarmed near a pool of water close by the road. When we looked at the pool, a Otter was dabbling in it to everyone's surprise. We were hardly prepared to handle the surprise and positioned the vehicle near to the pool. It was a Smooth Coated Otter...

Best sighting of a tigress walking casually in her territory. She tried crossing under the bridge and then decide to to return back in Sal patch and again sighted in the grassland and then on the road.

Watched this family of three playing in the grasslands before coming out on the road. Mostly seen solitary, seeing it with kittens was quite special.

After a long gap Wild Dogs were sighted in the park. It was exciting to see this pack back into business. Soon after they were sighted, they started going into the meadow, most likely in search of prey. We didnt see them coming out in the open, so went back to the place where they were first sighted, as a Sambar was giving distress calls. Soon after we...

Saw a couple of Wild dogs moving into the thick undergrowth while a Sambar deer was giving frantic distress calls. Shortly afterward a big female came out stamping its feet from the bush with no Wild dogs following it. Guessing a smaller Sambar could be still in, we waited. A minute after that, we heard a lot of rustling in the undergrowth & a young...

Saw this Leopard with a wild piglet kill on a tree. Seeing a leopard on a tree in Indian jungles is not as common as in Africa. A rare sighting in itself when you have this shy cat with a kill. This female stayed on the branch for a few minutes before disappearing into the thick undergrowth.

Canines plays a very important role in predators life, especially for Cats. Here at Kanha one of the Tigress who is raising 3 cubs which are at 16 months old has only one canine left!. last season we had seen that she had 2 diagonally opposite canines missing and we were impressed by her successful kills to feed her cubs. Now only with one and fast...

While driving in the park we came across hunting party of Jungle Babblers who were hunting insects in the undergrowth on both sides of the road. Usually these babblers are in flock of seven or more. Suddenly i saw a squirrel like animal crossing the road, when i observed it carefully i realized it was an uncommon animal called Treeshrew. Which is almost...

When we were driving next to large water body, we stopped to watch a big troop of langurs near the water. Two of them were actually inside the water and feeding on aquatic plants. Other monkeys like macaques get into the water easily not just for food but also for fun during the hot months. langurs very rarely get inside the water, they may some time...
