This morning I came across this male pink and blue Agama, also known as a Rock Agama. I noticed that it was thrashing its head from side to side. As I got closer, I noticed that it had something in its mouth. I realised that it had a really large locust in its mouth. I watched for a while as it hit the locust on the ground, killed it and then ate it.

We were on an afternoon game drive, with the golden light of the day shining gloriously, when we saw a female leopard. Whilst following her, we saw her kill a wild cat right in front of us! None of us had ever witnessed such a sighting before! We all thought that she would eat her kill, but she did not. She simply continued on. We stayed with her...

This morning at Lerai Forest, we came across a buffalo carcass lying in a stream. The buffalo's skin had been removed, exposing the ribs. One hind leg had been half eaten. We tried to look for the animal which may have killed the buffalo as we were curious to find out why the animal had seemingly been abandoned. We were not successful in our...

This afternoon whilst on a drive, we encountered two very sleepy lions at a waterhole. They were lying flat in the grass. I suggested to my guests that we go back to the water hole later on in the evening when it would be cooler. About two hours later we returned, and the males had been joined by a female. As we arrived they started stretching and...

Just before we went out on an afternoon drive, I told the guests that one of the pride had been spotted this morning. I asked them if they'd like to go and find this pride of lions. Of coarse they said yes. On the way up to where the lions were, we found a male white rhino and stopped for a quick look. The lions were a short distance away, so we left...

Kirkman’s Kamp is renowned for its leopard viewing and as a ranger, this is one of the most exciting prospects of going to work. I get to spend quality time with these mysterious cats. Before arriving at Kirkman’s, I had spent many weekends and school holidays in the bush. I visited most of the national parks in the country, camping,...

We have been hearing hippo fighting in the river over the past few months. As the river shrinks in the dry season, the hippos compete for the best places in the pools and the rights to the females. About 10 days ago there was a really bad smell coming from the river. It turned out to be a hippo that had been killed during a territorial battle. we...

We were excited and surprised to see a young leopard cub of about six months old stalking and killing a banded mongoose in front of the mother. We watched as the cub started to feed on its kill. It was an amazing sighting!

At this time of the year, the migration of the wildebeest is normally in the Masai Mara until around November when they start heading South towards the short grass plains of the Serengeti. However, on this morning's game drive we were amazed to see thousands of Wildebeest in the northern section of the Kleins Camp wildlife area. As far as the eye...

The first serval sighting ocurred some two months ago and lasted only a few seconds. The second time I have spotted a serval, I was able to view it for 30 minutes! The serval was spotted relaxing in the road. Hardly any words could be spoken. A sighting like this can only be described as an uber cool experience!
