The afternoon looked promising. As it was hot and dry, we were expecting to see large herds of animals near the river. We headed to one of my favorite areas, the eastern bank, and drove along the river’s edge. The banks of the sand river, here, are held together by the roots of the Jackalberry, Leadwood and Weeping Boer Bean trees that grow along...

No, this sighting story isn't about Kleins Camp! It's actually about the Kleins Butterfly Fish. Lately these clever little fish have been using us divers as a cover. Let me explain! In the last couple of weeks, the Sergeant Major fish have been laying their eggs all over our reefs. The eggs are tiny with a purple hue, and are placed over every...

I have never seen before what I did today. I have previously watched one male ostrich mating with two different females, but today was totally the opposite. It happened in the morning when we were driving along Engitati Hill. We spotted a pair of ostriches. The male was busy doing his famous dance to impress a female. It worked the pair of them mated....

We were out on a day game drive in the Serengeti National Park when we swere lucky enough to experience a lot of truly great sightings. These included two pairs of lions mating and wildebeest crossing the Mara River. On our way back, we thought that the drive simply could not get any better. We came across this male black rhino in the open grass...

I was lucky enough to have birding enthusiasts on my vehicle when we spotted a big bird in a tree. We all focused our binoculars on this bird and realised that it was an egyptian vulture, which is very rare to see. This is only the second time that I have seen one of these birds in the 4 years that I have been guiding.

It was around 16h00 at the floor of the crater, driving in a place called Daraja Tatu, where I spotted a cheetah laying down. Every so often she sat up and seemed to be looking at something. I followed her gaze, checking carefully. I then saw a Thomson gazelle coming towards her and I knew we were going to witness a kill. The gazelle kept walking...

Late in the afternoon we found a pack of wild dogs hunting. We found it impossible to keep up with them. So I decided to wait a few hundred meters away with a herd of impala in front of us. Our patience paid off. Before long there were impala and wild dogs running everywhere. Again, we could not keep up. So we just sat and listened. All of a sudden we...

After many days of searching, I finally saw my first black rhino in this reserve. It was a cold morning when we were driving to the southern end of the reserve in the hope of finding wild dog, when the bush exploded and a rhino stopped a short distance from us. He was huffing, puffing and snorting away. We had clearly disturbed him. He stared at us,...

Today I can across a pair of these amazing fish! They look exactly like sea grass floating around the reef, hence why they are called Sea Grass Ghost Pipefish. They are usually found in pairs and are quite territorial. Hopefully we will be able to find them again soon! They are also difficult to photograph as they are constantly moving with the current,...

I’ve just come back from leave and one of my highlights in the first days back has definitely been our 8 week old leopard cub. We had a fantastic sighting of the female trying to teach her youngster how to take its first steps in climbing over obstacles. The mother would climb from rock to rock, making the task of following her a little more...
